Description: Meet Felicity Merriman, a spunky, spritely nine year old girl who lives in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1774, just before the Revolutionary War. We will have discussions, activities and food as it relates to the story and period of history. The older and younger girls will be divided for discussion time. Please obtain the Felicity series which is available at most bookstores and libraries. The first two weeks, we will cover "Meet Felicity". Dolls are very welcome in class, but not necessary.

Art Masters (E)

Description: Students will get a taste of many famous classic painters of our time. We will talk about their different art styles and how they created their work. In each class, students will have an opportunity to make a project using the approach of the master artist discussed. Students will also be making a Master Artist's Reference Book with notes and pictures of the different artists that they can take with them at the end of the class.

Description: Marissa Crook, who is 14 years old and has 9 years of ballet experience, will be teaching this enjoyable ballet class. 4-8 year old ballerinas will become familiar with traditional ballet warm-up exercises and stretches, barre and center work, with some fun activities as well. All the ballerinas will be performing at the Showcase on May 20th. Please bring: ballet shoes with tights or socks and a water bottle. Hair must be in a bun or one ponytail in the back for long hair or 2 pigtails for very short hair. Suggested dress: leotard, princess or fairy dress-up, or t-shirt and shorts.

Computers Made Simple (A)

Description: This class will be taught by Patti Poston and is based on a class she taught professionally. She will be teaching Microsoft Word skills including: templates, drawing and tables. Younger students (5th) can enroll with teacher approval and parental supervision, and with older students having priority. Maureen Ford will be teaching the first 4 weeks.

Dance for Musical Theater (E)

Description: Eric Momberg, Prevost, provides an introduction to the sport and art of fencing. Areas to be covered include offensive, defensive and counter-offensive theory and rules governing fencing. Students will participate in drills and bouts. Gear will be provided for class time. This class is for boys and girls! Foil and Saber are offered, but saber is available only to students who have taken foil. Class is limited. NOTE: The saber class begins at 2:00. Students go directly to class instead of large group assembly.

Description: Julie Schmidt (Financial Peace Facilitator) wants to help prepare our high school students for the real world. The students will cover savings, investments, debt, credit cards, budgeting, shopping strategies, careers, insurance and real estate. All high school students need an Economics class prior to graduation and this can go toward that requirement and be useful too.

Description: Steffany Walker, head coach of Crosstumblers Gymnastics and Tumbling in Carson City, will be teaching a tumbling class designed for boys and girls in grades K-6. The class will progress from basic rolls, cartwheels, and handstands to handsprings and "flips" for those who are ready. Please wear clothes that you can move in (and that will not show anything embarrassing) with no jewelry. Long hair will need to be securely out of the face.

There will be a little bit of homework involved, but they can do it to their own levels, no more, but no less.

Video Production (A)

Age: 5th-12th

Description: Learn the basics from start to finish on how to make a short video (1-2 minutes). You will learn the basics of script writing, script editing/timing, storyboards, casting, rehearsals, props, misc. equipment, types of shots, types of narratives and how to shoot linearly (that means NO editing-it does not mean one long take). You will be taught how to do this with little or no budget. All students will complete a short video by the end of session.
Students need to have their own video camera and supply their own tapes or discs depending on the format of your camera. All cameras need to be able to record/pause/record. If you're unsure, test out your camera. If a student does not have a camera they need to pair up with someone who does (prior to class is preferable). Pairs will need to be able to get together outside of class. Definite homework involved. Working on your own will be a requirement. Like all video and film projects we will have a schedule to keep. Students younger than 13 will need to be paired up with an older student for this class.
