These are the classes offered for the Spring 2012 Session.
The classes are listed roughly in order of age of students.
Classes with a gray background are full or closed.

First Hour (12:00-12:55)
Class Title	Grade Level	Description
Child Care (E)	2-5yo	This will be a relaxed, play focused hour for your young child. This class is offered mainly to watch over the children of volunteer parents and teachers who are busy in other classes at this time. A snack will be provided, so please alert us to any food allergies your child may have. (See Medical and Allergy Form on our Forms and Documents page.) Ballet (E)	4-9yo	Marissa Crook is sixteen years old and has nine years of experience in ballet. The girls should come to class with their hair in a bun, a ponytail, or pigtails. Preferably, the girls should wear a leotard or a princess/fairy dress-up outfit, or they may wear a t-shirt with shorts. They will also need ballet shoes, and tights or socks and a water bottle. The theme for this session is princess beauty (the fruits of the spirit are jewelry for our inward selves.) The girls will perform a recital at the Showcase Program, which they will be working on throughout the session.We will work on traditional ballet barre, stretching, and center exercises each week, along with the practice of all five basic ballet positions and many graceful ballet moves. Gardening Science (A)	K-3rd	It’s never too early to think about your garden! In this class we will learn about seeds and plants (parts, uses, capillary action etc.) as well as how to start a garden (soil, fertilizers, compost, worms). We will be doing activities throughout the session including growing sprouts to eat, make our own seedling pots, grow our own seedlings, and of course, we’ll be playing with dirt (and maybe a worm or two). My goal is to make this an entry level science class with labs and experiments to keep it fun. There will be some homework, mostly in the guise of growing things. String Ensemble (A)	Advanced, 2nd-12th	Instructor Mark Hull, with Pacific Mist Music, will be teaching this advanced strings class. (Advanced meaning you have taken violin lessons before.) He will provide the music book and is able to rent violins to those who need an instrument. Please e-mail if you need to rent an instrument. [$90 + $25 per month violin rental]
Contemporary Dance (E)	2nd-12th	This dance class begins with warm-ups and stretching, moves on to focus on dance techniques and finishes with choreographed dance. Music will include Christian and clean modern songs. Attire: socks and easy to move in clothes (no jeans). This class will perform at our showcase event. Teacher: Tegan Ford (12-12:55) ($15)
Human Body Systems (A)	4th-8th	Let's learn about what goes on inside the amazing human body. Our teacher, a registered nurse, will be taking us on a tour of the circulatory system, nervous system, muscular/skeletal system, plus many more. We will also learn about how nutrition effects these systems. This class will use videos to introduce each body system along with games, experiments and discussion. Self-Defense (E)	4th-12th	Mr. Garrett Manibog returns to teach this popular class from last session. The class will focus on conditioning the body and learning self-defense techniques. (12-12:55) ($50)
Beginning Guitar (E)	5th-12th	This beginning guitar class will be taught by Aubrey Fredeen. She has taken co-op guitar classes for two years, been an assistant in the class and had private lessons. She will be using the book and DVD "Simply Guitar," along with learning easy contemporary songs. Students will need to bring a working (stays in tune) guitar to class. They will perform a song at our showcase event. Teacher: Aubrey Fredeen (12-12:55) ($15)
Study Hall (A)	3rd-12th	Study hall is a quiet room for studying, reading or other quiet activities. Children enrolled in this class must be able to work independently for 55 minutes. A parent volunteer will oversee this class. (12-12:55) ($0)

Pre-school (E)	3-5yo	This class will have a relaxed schedule of art activities, stories, outdoor and indoor free play and snack time. A snack will be provided, so please alert us to any food allergies your child may have. (See Medical and Allergy Form on our Forms and Documents page.) Teacher: Gloria Parrish (1-1:55) ($10 per hour) Class is CLOSED
Beginner Strings (A)	K-12th	Instructor Mark Hull, with Pacific Mist Music, will be teaching this beginning strings class. He will provide the music book and is able to rent violins to those who need an instrument. A minimum of 5 students are needed in this class. Please e-mail if you need to rent an instrument. Art Basics (E)	K-3rd	Each week will be an intro to a famous artist or painting for 10 min. The rest of the class will be spent on different art projects - some of which will attempt to duplicate the technique used in the discussion piece from the beginning of class.We will explore drawing, watercolor, acrylic or tempra paints, and more fun projects. Some painting and drawing projects will use a "follow me approach". We will introduce the color wheel using primary and secondary colors. Teacher: Carolyn Runnells (1-1:55) $20 Class is CLOSED
Self-Defense (E)	K-4th	Mr. Garrett Manibog returns to teach this popular class from last session. The class will focus on conditioning the body and learning self-defense techniques. (1-1:55) ($50)
American Girl Drama (A)	2nd-8th	Here’s your chance to relive the stories you read from the American Girl history dolls. It is an opportunity to participate in many ways‐ acting, props, costumes and scenery. Everyone gets a chance to show off their creativity. There will be a performance for friends and family at the end of the 10 weeks. Teachers: Nancy Smith, Cherie Justis, and Darlene Hatfield (12-12:55) ($35)
Horrible History: The Measly Middle Ages (E)	3rd-6th	This is a boys only history class, with all of the icky stuff left in! We will be focusing mainly on England from 1066-1485: the Black Death, castles, the feudal system, kings, knights, noblemen, wars, battles, bloodshed, deception, and murder. This is a focused history class so that they can learn this specific stuff really well, and never forget it. Students will build catapults, crossbows, bows, slingshots, and other ghastly gadgets from Medieval times. We will also do other fun Medieval stuff. Highly recommended for rambunctious boys. Beginner Sewing (A)	5th-Adult	We'll be learning the basics of machine sewing and pattern reading. At the end of session, each student will have two completed projects to take home - a carry all bag and a fun apron - as well as a basic sewing kit. Each student will need to have their own sewing machine which they will bring with them and will purchase 1¼ yards of fabric of their choice for the apron. Teacher: Maridy Carpenter (1-1:55) ($10 plus fabric)
Cake and Cookie Decorating (A)	6th-Adult	This semester we will be learning the Wilton cake decorating method for basic cake decorating and decorating with fondant. Students will learn how to bake, fill, and ice cakes. They will also learn how to cover and decorate cakes in fondant. We will learn how to decorate cookies with royal icing, giving them a nice smooth finish! Students will be required to bake and ice cakes and have them ready for class. The students will need to get the Wilton Decorating Basics Student kit and the Wilton Gum Paste and Fondant Student Kit. Both kits can be bought at Michael's with a coupon. There will be other supply's and that list will be given in the first class. Teacher: Nicole Hanifan (1-1:55) ($25 plus supplies) Class is CLOSED
High School Biology (A)	7th-12th	This is a continuing class from the first semester and is only open to new students by permission from the instructors. This is a two-hour high school Biology class; one hour lecture and one hour lab. We will meet for 32 weeks so we will start early (Sept 8th), go through December (with a 2 wk break for Christmas) and January, and end in May 2012. Homework and parental involvement is required. You will need to buy the book, "Exploring Creation with Biology, 2nd Edition" by Jay Wile and the corresponding text booklet. We will provide all the lab materials. High School Chemistry (A)	9th-12th	This is a continuing class from the first semester and is only open to new students by permission from the instructors. This is a two-hour high school Chemistry class, one hour lecture and one hour lab. We will meet for 32 weeks so we will start early (Sept 8th), go through December (with a 2 wk break for Christmas) and January and end in May 2012. This class requires algebra math skills and is recommended for 10th - 12th grade. Students who take this class will be well prepared for college Chemistry. We will be using Exploring Creation with Chemistry 2nd edition, by Jay Wile. American Sign Language (A)	K-12th	Sign language is a language, just like Spanish or French. The class will begin by introducing basic communications like greetings, common phrases, body part names, colors and numbers. Older students will have separate instruction time within the class to work on more complicated conversation skills. The class will focus on practicing the skills learned through games and partner interaction. Our teacher is an American Sign Language instructor at TMCC and has also worked with young children in the school system. Teachers: Marilyn Sexton and Anne Hedelius (2:15-3:10) $35 Class is CLOSED
LEGO Bricks 4 Kidz® (E)	K-5th	Where can your child develop teamwork, creativity and problem-solving? Bricks 4 Kidz® classes build on the universal popularity of LEGO® bricks to deliver a high quality of educational play. Each hour-long class is a fun, enriching experience for your child teaching concepts across a variety of subject areas. Each unit is based on engaging themes such as space, inventions, laws of motion, famous buildings and more. We kick things off with a discussion about key concepts related to the model, then get right into the building. Working with a partner, your child will experience the hands-on fun of seeing a model come together piece by piece, from concept to completion. Different skill levels available for grades K-5th. American Girl Kaya (A)	2nd-8th	Meet Kaya An adventurous Nez Perce girl growing up in America - 1764. We will have discussions, activities and food as it relates to the story as a piece of literature, as period of history and as we relate to being a young lady in early America. The older and younger girls will be divided for discussion time. Please obtain the ""Kaya"" series of six stories, which is available at most bookstores and libraries. We will cover one book every two weeks. Dolls are very welcome in class, but not necessary. Teachers: Suzie Darney and Nancy Smith (2:15-3:10) ($35) Class is CLOSED
How to Solve a Mystery (E)	3rd-6th	Learn how to solve a mystery like an expert! Join us as we dive into mystery solving learning the steps of sleuthing or investigating an event, playing games, solving short mysteries, creating a story board or news article. How to solve a mystery with math or science, and more. Teacher: Elizabeth Dahl (2:15-3:10) ($30) Class is FULL
Art-Watercolor(E)	4th-12th	Artist Eileen Fuller is pleased to teach drawing, design, watercolor techniques and painting. The foundation lessons will result in students achieving strong designs and pleasing finished paintings. Making art is FUN, but making GOOD ART is even more so. All painting supplies will be provided. (Pencil & eraser and plain paper or a small sketchbook would also be necessary.) Eileen Fuller has been teaching adults and children watercolor painting for over 5 years in Northern Nevada. Her work can be seen at the Artist's Co-op, 627 Mill St. in Reno and at Wildflower Village, 4225 W. 4th St in Reno. Visit her website at www.watercolorsbyeileen.com. She is a member of the Sierra Watercolor Society where she has participated in the Art Angels program, teaching in public schools to 3rd and 4th grade students. Experiencing God Teen Study (A)	7th-12th	The book Experiencing God the Youth Edition by Henry T. Blackaby and Claude V. King will be used. It is a nine week study designed for teens to understand and apply biblical principals to their life. Interspersed between devotionals will be several community projects which will be completed in class. Leaders are Miranda Smith and Emma Justis (2:15-3:10) ($25)

Moms in Touch (A)	Moms	"Are you a mom who deeply loves her children and longs for them to grow up to be loving, confident and successful? Do you fear that influences outside your control will steal their hearts? You are not alone!" Moms In Touch Prayer group is a structured, focused time of prayer for our children, their coop teachers and for us and our homes because we are our children’s teachers and our homes are their schools! We will use a 4-step prayer format of Praise, Confession, Thanksgiving and Intercession using scripture as our guide. Scripture praying is praying back to God His very words on behalf of the one for whom we are interceding. We will start as a group and then spend the time of intercession split up in groups of two. Please join me in prayer for our kids. We will begin promptly because, as you will soon discover, time will fly by! All you need to participate is a heart for your children and a bible.
